You’re Like A Big Hunk Of Ice!
A very good friend of mine just sent me one of those emails that has all kinds of awesome pictures and an inspirational song playing in the background.
I always like to marvel at the wonders of the world we live in and I always get inspired from things like this.
Something odd happened this time. In all of the incredible pictures and inspiration one thing really stuck out to me in a huge way.
It was a picture of an iceberg.
They are pretty cool to look at, but this time I had a powerful distinction looking at it.
When you look at an iceberg you only see the bits floating above the water… but underneath the water lives the bulk of the ice.
Then I realized that a lot of people only look at the surface of who they are.
That people sometimes forget all of the work and effort they did to create that mass that allows the tip to float above the water.
All of the nappies that parents change, all of the balancing and juggling of money to get by, all of the extra long nights crying on someone’s shoulder or letting someone cry on yours.
All of the REAL experiences in life that build that bulk and character that gives you the mass to have as much of you exposed up out of the water as possible.
When you look at someone today realize that all you are seeing is the ‘top’ part of who they are. All of the struggles, trails, successes and failures, pain and tears, laughs and crys, smiles and frowns, and love from their heart made it possible for you to experience that person you call a friend, daughter, husband, mom or dad, or brother or sister.
It is a lifetime of experience that builds that mass and allow the rest of us to see the part of them that is exposed to the world.
So I guess the point is to just realize that there is much more to people than we can ever imagine, and everyone has so much more to offer than they are currently showing the world.
Live with love and appreciate the life experiences the people in your life have had to become who they are.
